Fundamental vs Technical Research

What to invest in is one of the most asked question in the investment world. Hardly surprising as everyone wants solid information on what decisions to make and where to place their hard-earned cash.

Unfortunately, there is never one right answer to this question. With variables like age, time horizon, capital available, risk appetite and more, each person will have a different investment option which is best for them.

What is standard though is that research is one of the best ways to help you make your decision.

Research is often split into technical and fundamental research.

Fundamental research evaluates an investment opportunity by attempting to measure intrinsic value by looking at things like profit, price-earnings ratio, management of a company, rate of client acquisition, the economic operating environment as well as the competitive environment. This kind of research is often viewed as more useful for medium and long-term investment.

Technical research looks at statistical trends in a stock's price and volume. It is often seen as less emotional (more objective) than fundamental research as these trends are used to predict future price movements.

Whether you choose fundamental research, technical research or both – always be sure to do your homework before investing. Make sure what you are buying is right for your investment needs. Check our Research Portal for free research and tools to help you on your investment journey.
